FACTS
Eucalyptus is not just a pleasant and refreshing scent for your steam room. It has some rather powerful effects on airborne bacteria, microbes, fungi, and other undesirable guests you may end up with in the atmosphere of what should be a healing and therapeutic place. There are at least 400 species of Eucalyptus, all of them bearing one kind of oil or another, though not all of them contain the molecule 1,8 Cineole (Cineol, or Eucalyptol), a very effective antibacterial agent among other things, as you will see if you follow the links below. The chemical compositions of the various types of Eucalyptus are widely disparate. The specie containing the highest amount of Cineole is Eucalyptus Globulus. It is E.Globulus from which our oils are extracted. They are then refined to a point well beyond the standards for "Pharmaceutical Grade" established by National Formulary (NF), the world governing body for establishment of such standards. Pharmaceutical grade Eucalyptus Oil is 70-75% Cineole. Our Suprema Grade and the basis for all our blends, is 80-85%. This eliminates the other trace elements which, not only don't smell very nice and clog up the automatic injection systems (one of the reasons using other brands voids our warranty), but also are basically considered contaminates, hindering the therapeutic effects of 1,8 Cineole. Spas in Germany and Switzerland have used eucalyptus oil in their steam rooms and saunas for generations, recognizing its therapeutic and stimulating effects, and valuing the refreshing, clean aroma. In most countries in Europe, the term "Aromatherapy" is equated with control of contagious diseases, and pharmacists proudly display the fact that they carry supplies for implementing its use. People there, particularly in France, Germany and Belgium, commonly realize how potent the distillates of certain plants can be, and that it is powerful chemistry being employed, not just a pleasant or unpleasant smell, as the case may be.
